Prepare Your Home for Thanksgiving with these 4 Cleaning Tips

It can be quite a stressful time for Thanksgiving hosts, having to worry about feeding and entertaining your guests – not to mention preparing a clean home for them! Without careful planning and time management, your holidays might end up more hectic than happy. However, with these four tips for preparing a clean home for Thanksgiving, you’ll be on your way to a stress-free holiday in no time!

1. Assess the situation

How messy is your home? Is it a weekly cleaning? If so, you should get done in no time. If it’s more like a monthly cleaning or worse, you need to start planning for a deep cleaning. Think about the things you’ve been putting off for so long and prepare to finally get them done in a timely manner.

2. Prioritize

You’ve got a million and one things to worry about. It’s important to prioritize your cleaning by realizing what areas are in need of the most attention and move down from there. If you’re in a time crunch,  consider what areas will be seen and used by your guests. If your bedroom is the worst area in the house, it’s highly likely that your guests won’t even see the clutter as they will spend most of their time in living and dining areas. Start with the most important areas for entertaining your guests.

3. Set a Cleaning Path

With larger homes, it can be easy to accidentally skip over certain areas of the home when cleaning in a rush. We suggest sticking with a cleaning path. For example, start with the front of the home and work your way to the back. As long as you are working your way front to back, on both the left, middle, and right of the home, you’ll know you haven’t left any stone unturned by the time you finish at the back of the home. Cleaning paths make it easier to keep track of what area has been cleaned and which areas have not.

4. Time Management – Use a Timer

In a rush? Have less time than you had planned to clean the house? Determine how much time you have left to dedicate to cleaning. Now, consider which areas will take the longest to clean. Once you’ve decided, divide up the time you have to an approximate time allotment for each area. Carry a kitchen timer with you to each room and set the timer to the time you have allowed for that space. When time is up, it’s time to move on – even if you’re not quite done! It still looks better than it did before, right?
