The Importance of All-Natural Cleaning Solutions [and How to Make Your Own]

all-natural-cleaning-solutions blog photoHere at Universal Cleaning Company, we understand the value and need for all-natural cleaning solutions. However, many home owners are still unaware of the potential dangers and risks involved with using traditional cleaning solutions that contain toxic and harmful chemicals.

The benefits of using all-natural cleaning solutions are numerous, but first—

Why are most store-bought cleaning solutions so bad?

There are many potentially toxic chemicals that go into the solutions that many home owners use to clean on a regular basis. Some of these chemicals, such as Triclosan, have been linked to health issues including asthma and other upper respiratory complications. Other chemicals are so dangerous that you are forced to use protective gloves or risk burns to your skin, or require a face mask because of intense fumes. Now, imagine you have a pregnant wife or small child; would you want them exposed to such chemicals?

Make your own natural solutions and save money.

Not only do all-natural cleaning solutions protect you and your family, but they can also be made right at home! Making your own all-natural cleaning solutions will save you a trip to the store and it’s much cheaper in price than buying the typical off-the-shelf cleaners that pose risks to you and your family.

Now that you are aware of the risks involved with traditional cleaning solutions and the great benefits of making your own all-natural solutions, here is a list of a few to get you started:

Basic Ingredients:

• Olive Oil
• Vinegar
• Baking Soda
• Lemon Juice
• Hydrogen Peroxide

 All-Purpose Cleaner

  1. Add 2 tablespoons of distilled vinegar and 1 teaspoon of liquid castile soap (vegetable based and natural) to an unused  bottle with a spray nozzle.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda. When it has stopped foaming, continue by adding 2 cups of warm water and gently shake the mixture.
  3. Get cleaning! Be sure to use an organic cleaning cloth.

Surface Cleaner

  1. Mix 1 cup of baking soda with 1/4 cup of liquid castile soap.
  2. Add 5 teaspoons of vegetable glycerin and 5-10 drops of tea tree oil. Glycerin is a natural preservative and tea tree oil has antibacterial properties.
  3. Scrub with a microfiber cleaning cloth on surfaces, rinse with hot water and polish with a dry microfiber cloth.

Glass Cleaner

  1. Add 1/2 cup distilled vinegar to a new spray bottle.
  2. Fill with distilled water, gently shake.
  3. You’re ready for spotless mirrors and windows!

Other Tips:

  • Be sure to clearly label your home made cleaning supplies.
  • Mix enough for at least one month at a time.
  • Always use clean, new containers for your home made cleaning solutions. Reusing containers from commercial cleaning supplies can taint yours with leftover chemical residue.
  • Add cleansing essential oils such as lavender, tea tree oil, or rosemary for essence, scent, and benefit.
  • Enjoy your clean, all-natural home!
