4 New Year Resolutions for a Cleaner Home in 2016

fireworks-574739_1920We all have a few things we would like to work on, and the New Year offers a fresh start to implement new habits and achieve your goals. If keeping a cleaner or better organized home is on your list of things you’d like to improve, then this list of New Year resolutions is for you! There’s no better time than now to start clean habits in the home, so let’s get started!

1. Downsize

The new year comes just after Christmas, when many of us receive lots of new things. Each gift you receive will take up space wherever it is stored, and if you’re already running low on space, it’s probably time to downsize. Did you get new clothes for Christmas? Go through your closet and donate any clothes you don’t wear. They’re taking up precious closet space! This goes for any other items taking up space in your home that are not decorative and are not used. Downsizing in your home allows you to better organize and clean your home. A cluttered home can take much more time to clean than a well organized home and gives an unorganized appearance.

2. Everything Has a Home (Organize)

Are you the type of person who gets things out and doesn’t return them to their space? This behavior can lead to an unorganized and cluttered home. Remember: everything has a home! When you get something out, put it back when you’re done using it. Do this on a daily basis. Don’t go to sleep without putting your things back into their assigned space. Do this, and you’ll find yourself with a much more organized home that is easier to clean!

3. Clean Regularly

Sometimes we procrastinate cleaning, while other times we’re just too busy and can’t find the time. When things finally get unbearably messy, we somehow find time to clean. This is because we make time for things we want or need to do – so make time for cleaning! Clean on a regular basis and you’ll find it’s not such a chore anymore. When you clean regularly, you are more or less maintaining an already clean home rather than cleaning up a home that has been neglected. When you clean regularly, you avoid facing a much bigger and time consuming job later on. So this year, decide to clean regularly. Create a cleaning schedule and pencil it in on your calendar and experience a clean home year-round!

4. Get the Family Involved

If you have a family, keeping a clean home year-round requires their cooperation, too. Give your spouse a few small daily duties that will make a big difference in your home. When it comes to children, creating a type of reward system or turning cleaning into a daily game will motivate them to participate. If you can get the family involved in your New Year resolutions to maintain a clean home, achieving this goal will be much easier.

We hope these four New Year resolution ideas will allow you to have a cleaner, better organized home in 2016!
